Are you often confused between the terms Psychiatrist and Psychologist?

Both psychiatrists and psychologists treat mental health issues and behavioural disorders, and are trained to provide psychotherapy, but there are some key differences between the two professions.

Here are some of the key differences between them!

Psychiatrist

The main difference between the two professions is that psychiatrists can prescribe medicine. They are medical doctors trained in the medical sciences. They learn how to recognise the many ways the biological processes in the human body and diseases can affect our mental functioning, and vice versa. They run a diagnosis on the body and the mind and provide medicine to manage symptoms.

Psychologist

Psychologists hold doctoral degrees in psychology, which is a social science. They learn about the ways thoughts and feelings affect various aspects of our lives like determining our relationships, identifying mental disorders, and influencing our mental functioning. Psychologists equip patients with problem-solving and emotion-coping strategies to deal with problems.
