A healthy diet is important to keep your body nourished and ready to take on your difficult task. Some foods are beneficial to your brain. Here are some top brain foods that can help boost your long-term brain health.

Green, leafy vegetables

Leafy greens such as kale, spinach, and broccoli are rich in nutrients like vitamin K, lutein, folate, and beta carotene, which are brain-healthy nutrients that help slow cognitive decline.

Walnuts

Nuts in general are healthy for the body as they are excellent sources of protein and healthy fats. But walnuts in particular have been championed as one of the de facto choices for brain food. They are also high in a type of omega-3 fatty acid called alpha-linolenic acid which is beneficial for lower blood pressure and cleaner arteries. Talk about food for the heart and mind!

Fatty Fish

Fatty fish are abundant sources of omega-3 acids. It is recommended to eat fish twice a week, and to choose fish that are lower in mercury content like salmon, cod, and canned light tuna.

Berries

Berries are chock full of flavonoid antioxidants, which are naturally found in their vibrant pigments. This nutrient has been linked to improving communication between brain cells, increasing plasticity which helps brain cells form new connections that boosts learning and memory, and reduces age-related cognitive decline and diseases.

Dark Chocolate

Like berries, dark chocolate has huge amounts of flavonoids. This is due in part to its main component, cocoa. During a 2018 study, scientists have seen brain boosting effects from participants that consumed chocolate of at least 70 percent cacao. So next time you would like a little sweet treat, you can feel less guilty when you reach for the dark chocolate.
