News & Announcements

Have you ever ended an intense study session feeling really hungry? That’s normal because thinking causes big fluctuations in your glucose levels, which leads to feelings of hunger. If you do decide to reach for a snack, you should pick something that is healthy for you, and here are five reasons why.

1. Immunity

The immune system is your body’s defence mechanism against viruses and bacteria. In turn, you should take extra care of it and help strengthen it with food, so you can be better protected. One immunity boosting snack is yoghurt, which is filled with probiotics—a healthy bacteria that works together with the immune system to target pathogens and fine tune immune responses.

2. Strengthens bones

Having strong, healthy bones is often taken for granted. As you age, your bones will also grow weaker. This is why strengthening them as early as possible is key to living a long, robust life. A nice cold glass of milk is not only refreshing, but it is also healthy for your bones. This dietary staple is filled with calcium, phosphorus, protein, and other nutrients.

3. Helps the digestive system

No one wants to get the runs when studying, so you have to help your digestive system along every chance you get. Many fruits are filled with fibre, a key nutrient that promotes digestion. A fun snack idea would be to make a bowl of oatmeal with some sliced bananas and nuts.

4. Achieve and maintain a healthy weight

Too much snacking can lead to an increase in weight. So, to prevent them, your snacks should be chosen carefully. Hard boiled eggs are a filling as they are chock full of protein. The yolk is rich in important nutrients like vitamin D and choline. Just be sure to keep your intake in moderation as too many eggs will spike your cholesterol level.

5. Supports brain development

It should be a no-brainer that you would want to support your brain development as much as possible to be the best student you can. Berries are an excellent source of flavonoids—the plant pigment that gives berries their bright colours—which helps in improving one’s memory.
