The Preparatory Course is designed to prepare international students to sit for the AEIS Test for admission into Singapore Government Primary and Secondary School. International students seeking admission to a Government School must take the Admission Exercise for International Students (AEIS) Test conducted by the Ministry of Education (MOE).
For primary levels, the AEIS Test will involve a centralised test on Mathematics and is held in September/October of each year. Before the AEIS test for Mathematics, Primary students must take the Cambridge English Qualifications (CEQ) test run by Cambridge Assessment English (CAE). Please refer to MOE’s website for more information: https://www.moe.gov.sg/international-students/aeis. The Ministry of Education will assign international students who are successful in the AEIS Test to join a Government School in January on the following year. The Primary education in Singapore is a 6-year course. Students will sit for the Primary School Leaving Examination (PSLE) at the end of Primary 6. Successful students will proceed to do the Secondary education.
For Secondary Levels, the AEIS Test (Secondary 1 to Secondary 3 levels) will involve a centralised test on English and Mathematics and is held in September/October of each year. The Ministry of Education will assign international students who are successful in the AEIS Test to join a Government School in January on the following year. From 2027, graduating secondary students will sit for the Singapore-Cambridge Secondary sEducation Certificate (SEC) examinations, at their respective subject levels (i.e. G1, G2, G3). There will be no change to the examination format, and the SEC examinations will continue to be jointly examined and awarded by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board, MOE, and the Cambridge International Education.
Correspondingly, the SEC examination timetable will be consolidated into a single sitting to allow students to better pace their learning throughout the year. Under the SEC examination timetable, the written examinations for English Language and Mother Tongue Languages (MTL) will be conducted in September, while the written examinations for the rest of the subjects will be conducted from October to November, similar to the current O-Level examination timetable. There will also only be one written examination sitting for all MTL subject levels (i.e. G1, G2, G3 MTL and G3 Higher MTL).
International students who missed or failed the AEIS Test may sit for the Supplementary Admission Exercise for International Students (S-AEIS) Test in February / March of each year. From 2013 onwards, the S-AEIS will be for admission to the Primary 2 to Primary 4 and Secondary 1 to Secondary 2 levels only. There will be no admission to the Primary 5 and Secondary 3 levels under the S-AEIS.
Applicants who have taken part in AEIS Test previously and were unsuccessful may apply to take AEIS Test again at the same or higher level, subject to MOE Terms and Conditions.
