The Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Ordinary Level) (GCE O-Level) is a national level assessment jointly organised by the Cambridge Assessment International Education, the Ministry of Education, Singapore and the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB). This qualification is deemed as one of the entry requirements considered by many post-secondary institutions locally and internationally. In addition, this qualification is also one of the basic education qualifications which may be considered / assessed by the potential employers.

Upon passing their GCE O-Level Examination taken at one of the examination centres selected by the Singapore Examinations and Assessment Board (SEAB), students would be awarded the Singapore-Cambridge GCE O-Level by Ministry of Education, Singapore and Cambridge Assessment International Education.

Objective

The objective of this course is to prepare students for the GCE-O Level examination, giving them a better understanding and overview of basic subjects comprising English, Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Physics, Principles of Accounts or Chemistry.

Programme Structure and Content

Compulsory Subjects
  • English Language
    This subject aims to enable students to communicate effectively in English. At the end of the course, students are expected to be able to listen, read, write and speak to meet general living needs; and they are expected to speak, write and make presentations in internationally acceptable English for academic purpose.
  • Mathematics
    This subject is intended to provide students with the fundamental mathematical knowledge and skills. It aims to develop the necessary mathematical concepts and skills for continuous learning in Mathematics and related disciplines, and for the applications to the real world. By developing students’ mathematical thinking and problems solving skills, they are expected to apply these skills to solve problems with logical reasoning and judgement.
  • Additional Mathematics
    This subject aims to prepare students for future Singapore-Cambridge General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) (GCE A-Level) Mathematics which requires a strong foundation in algebraic manipulation skills and mathematical reasoning skills. Along with the Mathematics, it is intended to equip students with necessary mathematical concepts and skills for continuous learning in Mathematics and related discipline.

    Biology
    This subject is designed to have less emphasis on factual materials, but a much greater emphasis on the understanding and application of scientific concepts and principles. This approach has been adopted in recognition of the need for students to develop skills that will be of long-term value in an increasingly complex and globalised world, rather than focusing on large quantities of factual material, which may have only short-term relevance.

  • Physics
    This subject will enable students to acquire understanding and knowledge in the area of physical matter and phenomena. By providing a worthwhile educational experience, students are expected to develop the ability and skills that are relevant to study and practice of science useful in everyday life as well as the attitude in appreciation of accuracy, precision, objectivity and integrity.
  • Chemistry
    This subject is intended to equip students with sufficient understanding and knowledge in respect of practical chemistry, in particular, the appreciation of the finite life of the world’s resources and hence the need for recycling and conservation. Students are expected to show economic consideration and concern about the social, environmental, health and safety issues relating to the chemical industry; meanwhile, to recognize the usefulness and limitation of scientific method.

    Principles of Accounts
    This subject primarily covers the roles of accounting, double entry system, accounting procedure, preparation of the final accounts and analysis and interpretation of final accounts. It aims to equip students with the understanding of fundamental accounting concepts, principle and procedures in business context; and to develop students’ skills in preparing, analysing and interpreting accounting and financial information.

Maximum allowed period for a student to complete the course is subject to MOE’s regulation

Maximum Candidature Period

Student is not allowed to retake the course and/or request for a refund in the event if he/she fails to complete the programme within the maximum candidature period.

Opportunities for Further Education/Career Pathway

Student may pursue their education to local polytechnics as well as overseas colleges and universities.

  • Graduates progression pathway is subject to the respective Institutions’/Universities’ entry requirements at the point of application.
  • Foreigner’s application for jobs in Singapore is subject to the approval from the Ministry of Manpower of Singapore (MOM). DIMENSIONS DOES NOT GUARANTEE any success rate of approval.

Entry Requirements

Age: At least 15 years old as at 1st January of the examination year.
Academic Level: Minimum completed Junior Middle 3 with a pass in English subject in applicant’s country of origin or equivalent qualifications required by MOE, Singapore.

Class Periods

Monday to Friday:

9.15am – 12.30pm and 1.45pm – 4.45pm

At least 3 hours per session, 2 sessions per school day, 10 sessions per week

Examination Period

  • March: Registration for examinations
  • May: Chinese Written Examination
  • June/July: Chinese listening comprehension and oral exam
  • August: English listening comprehension and oral exam
  • October/November: other subjects written examination

    Note 1: International Student must achieve at least 90% attendance rate (ICA Requirement).
    Note 2: International Student must not be absent for more than 7 consecutive days without valid reason (ICA Requirement).
    Note 3: Students who do not require ICA’s student’s pass must achieve at least 80% attendance rate.Our College only accept medical certificates as proof for absenteeism. Any other documents should only be accepted on a case-by-case basis with full justification and be acceptable by ICA.
    Note 4: In the first week of studies, an induction session will be conducted. The students will be briefed by the Academic Staff on full details of the course including scheme of work, timetable, assessments and grading, assessment and exam dates and venue and many other academic matters.
    Note 5: DIMENSIONS has the right to cancel a class/an intake if the minimum number of students enrolled is less than 10 for any programme per class. Students may enroll into a later intake, if any, or withdraw from course. (For refund, please refer to our Refund Policy).
    Note 6: Students (both international and local) must achieve an attendance rate of 80% and above in order to qualify for examinations.
