Course Structure

Diploma in Psychology consists of 8 modules.

Course Outline

• Outline for Introduction to Psychology 1The purpose of this module is to introduce students to the field of psychology as a scientific discipline concerned with the study. The topic outlined in the course content will be introduced at a broad conceptual level and will be illustrated with examples that introduce some of the key practical implication.
• Outline for StatisticsThis module will explain the use of descriptive statistics to summarise data and introduces students to sampling and probability. The aim of this module is to provide students with analytical and interpretative skills so they can perform statistical calculations and interpret statistical reports. This module will also introduce inferential statistics and how to apply inferential statistical techniques in psychological research.
• Outline for Introduction to Psychology 2Introductory Psychology II is designed to introduce students to the field of psychology as a scientific discipline concerned with the study of behaviour and mental processes. Consideration for Part II will be given to such topics as biopsychology, learning, cognition and language, memory, motivation and emotion, mental disorders and psychotherapies. The topics outlined in the course content will be introduced at a broad conceptual level and will be illustrated with examples that introduce some of the key practical implications.
• Outline for Social PsychologyThe aim of this module is to introduce social psychology and how social psychological theories can be applied to the real world. Students with a gain broad understanding of some key areas of social psychology and explore how social psychological phenomena as they relate to individuals (e.g. the self, attitudes), group behaviour (e.g. social influence, leadership), and important social issues (e.g. prejudice, aggression). Students will gain an insight into how social psychological thinking has developed across time and how social psychology contributes to understanding of human behaviour.
• Outline for Psychology of Motivation, Emotion, and CognitionThis module introduces students to theories related to motivation and emotion. The theories of motivation and emotion will be examined alongside concepts of cognition.
• Outline for Research MethodsThis module aims to provide students with the knowledge of a range of basic research methods and statistical analysis tools used in psychology. It will enable them to design and conduct small research projects and analyse data collected. This will be the platform to facilitate students in their design and construction of a research proposal for the dissertation.
• Outline for Cognitive PsychologyThis module is designed to introduce students to the field of cognitive psychology. We will devote our class time to exploring major subareas within cognition, focusing on an understanding of the major theories, research findings and practical applications associated with these topics. This module provides students with a sound understanding of cognitive psychology as a preparation for practice in the field. The module will focus on attention, memory, language, thinking, decision-making, judgment, reasoning and problem-solving.
• Outline for Organizational PsychologyThis module will provide students with an understanding in some key areas of Work and Organization. The aim will be to examine the contribution that WOP theory and research can make in contemporary organizations. The module takes a scientist-practitioner perspective to organizational behaviour and will be relevant to those students who hope to develop expertise in the area of WOP to enhance productivity and well-being at work in the contemporary organizations.

Duration

8 months Institutional Training
Maximum allowed period for a student to complete the course is 16 months

Maximum Candidature Period

Student is not allowed to retake the course and/or request for a refund in the event if he/she fails to complete the programme within the maximum candidature period.

Opportunities for Further Education/Career Pathway

Students may consider taking up an Advanced Diploma in Psychology before pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree.

Entry Requirements

Academic Level:

Local students	GCE ‘A’ level with at least 1 subject pass or DIMENSIONS Business Foundation or other private Foundation Certificate (with equivalent entry requirements as Foundation Diploma in Business and subject to approval).
International students	Equivalent to Year 12 from the respective home country of the applicant.

Note: Applicants with non-standard entry qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis

 

English Proficiency : At least IELTS 5.5 or CAE Level 4 or pass the English Proficiency Test at equivalent level conducted by DIMENSIONS. English proficiency may be considered to have been met and an IELTS score may not be required if applicant possesses a highest qualification where English was the sole medium of instruction.

Monday to Friday: 8.30am - 11.30am and/or 12.15pm - 3.15pm and/or 3.30pm - 6.30pm

Part-time(Blended)

Weekday (Monday to Friday)
Sessions will be conducted from 7.00pm to 10.00pm

Weekend (Saturday and/or Sunday)

Note:

• A student who fails with average mark less than 30 is required to retake the module.
• A student who fails more than half of the total number of modules is required to retake the whole course.
