Programme Introduction

The Diploma in Business is designed for students who are interested in acquiring knowledge in Business. Students will be trained to achieve competency in business management practices and knowledge through lectures, tutorials, discussions, researches and assignments.

In general, students will be able to comprehend the business environment, business operations and law, and consumer behaviour. In addition, they will also acquire a good knowledge of management in areas like marketing and finance, as well as an understanding in quantitative analysis and financial accounting.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded the Diploma in Business by DIMENSIONS International College. Our successful students can continue their advancement in education or look forward to performing their roles as business management executives in various industrial sectors.

Course Outline

• Outline for Business OperationThe aim of this module is to provide learners with the understanding and skills to manage their activities in the business workplace to improve their effectiveness and efficiency. Students will be exposed to the areas, such as business processes and functions, planning work activities, managing work activities, ensuring quality products and services, managing health and safety and making improvements at the workplace.
• Outline for Consumer BehaviourThe focus of this module is to understand the current theoretical and practical aspects of consumer behaviour. This module focuses on understanding, evaluating and predicting consumer behaviour. This module stresses analytical thinking about consumer psychology and prediction of how marketing tactics may influence the demand for products and services.
• Outline for MarketingThe aim of this module is to provide learners with the knowledge and skills relating to the fundamental concepts and principles that underpin the marketing process and activities in business organisations.
• Outline for Personal and Professional DevelopmentThis module intends to help students to become an effective, confident, and self-directed person. Hence, students will have the confidence and professional skills to aspire for their personal and career growth.
• Outline for Business LawThe unit introduces students to the basic principles of law relating to business. It develops students’ knowledge of the general principles of contract and criminal law, and the more specific statutory provisions relating to consumer and employee protection. It also introduces students to the business units, their formation, management and dissolution. The students are encouraged to analyse and evaluate legal provisions and to adopt a practical approach to problem solving.
• Outline for Financial AccountingThe module equips students with knowledge of the essential accounting concepts, theories and systems of preparing and generating related financial statements. Successful students will be able to interpret and analyse the essential accounts and financial data, the financial health such as the liquidity, solvency and profitability of the company, and information supporting day-to-day business operations and decisions.
• Outline for Managing Information and TechnologyThis module aims to introduce students to the role and functions of management information systems in a business operation and introduces them to the techniques for the effective collection, storage and analysis of data for effective decision-making process via electronic and paper-based communication. It will require the students to develop practical applications as well as the ability to recommend how MIS should be used in business as a competitive advantage. Students will also be exposed to the technical aspects of data management.
• Outline for EconomicsThis module introduces learners to a range of economic activities revolving around the business and aims to develop students’ micro and macroeconomic concepts, principles, and application in support of effective business decisions in competitive environments surrounding enterprises.

Duration

8 months Institutional Training
Maximum allowed period for a student to complete the course is 16 months.

Maximum Candidature Period

Student is not allowed to retake the course and/or request for a refund in the event if he/she fails to complete the programme within the maximum candidature period.

Entry Requirements

Academic Level:

Local students	Received a passing grade in at least one (1) GCE A-Level subject or DIMENSIONS’ Foundation Diploma in Business or other Certificate in Foundation programme (with equivalent entry requirements as Foundation Diploma in Business and subject to approval).
International students	Equivalent to Year 12 from the respective home countries of the applicants.

Note: Applicants with non-standard entry qualifications will be considered on a case-by-case basis

 

English Proficiency : An IELTS score of at least 5.5 or DIMENSIONS’ Certificate in Academic English (CAE) Level 4 or passed DIMENSIONS’ English Proficiency Test at an equivalent level or its equivalent. English proficiency may be considered to have been met and an IELTS score may not be required if applicant possesses a highest qualification where English was the sole medium of instruction.

Class Periods

Full-time(Face-to-face)

Monday to Friday: 8.30am - 11.30am and/or 12.15pm - 3.15pm and/or 3.30pm - 6.30pm

3 hours per session. All specific programme schedules will be reflected in the timetable.

Part-time(Blended)

Weekday (Monday to Friday)
Sessions will be conducted from 7.00pm to 10.00pm

and/or

Weekend (Saturday and/or Sunday)
Sessions will be conducted within 9.00am to 6.00pm
