Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Hospitality Management (QCF) is offered as a 20-month programme that is designed to equip students with the knowledge, understanding and skills required for progression to an undergraduate degree. Such qualification may be accepted by overseas universities with advanced credit standing when applying for degree courses. The acceptance is dependent on universities and is on case-by-case basis.

Upon successful completion of the course, students will be awarded the Pearson BTEC Level 5 HND Diploma in Hospitality Management (QCF) by Pearson Education, UK. Students will have an advanced standing into the final (third) year programme of the University of Chester, UK, subject to the entry requirements of the English proficiency. Upon successful completion of the final (third) year, students are eligible to obtain the Bachelor of Arts with Honours in Hospitality Management awarded by the University of Chester, UK.

Objective

  • To provide students with an understanding of the complexity of the tourism and hospitality industry, multidisciplinary skills and the ability to successfully manage a resort complex.
  • To develop the knowledge and skills necessary for positions within the IR projects.
  • To create awareness in regards to the demanding nature of the service industry.
  • To equip students with sufficient knowledge & techniques in order to enable them to assist decision makers in hospitality industry.

Course Structure

This programme consists of 16 modules with sequence set by the Scheme of Work.

The programme consists of two components:

  • Theory and practical class lessons conducted at DIMENSIONS International College (14 months).
  • Industrial Attachment (IA)*, students will be trained at hotels, resorts, country clubs or restaurants and write a project report (6 months).

*Students must satisfy the following pre-qualifying requirements prior to school’s arrangement for their IA posting:

A) Complete and pass the practical and theory assessments of your Course
B) Achieve at least 90% attendance rate
C) Pass the Interview Screening Test comprising of:

  • Technical Test
  • Performance Test

Note:

IA posting is not guaranteed and will be subjected to approval of relevant passes by Ministry of Manpower (MOM). No further IA posting will be arranged if a student withdraws or is terminated from the IA centre.

Note 1:  All miscellaneous fees are inclusive of 7% GST.
Note 2: DIMENSIONS shall provide all students aged 7 and above the required medical insurance coverage on hospitalisation and related medical treatment for the entire course duration. A Singapore Citizen/PR or a non- student’s pass international student who is protected by his/her own medical insurance coverage in Singapore can opt out from the medical insurance scheme with a proof of valid Medical Insurance Plan given to DIMENSIONS.
Note 3: Total course fees paid (except application fee and GST) by students are protected under the Fee Protection Scheme (FPS).
Note 4: All students must sign the Advisory Note to Student before signing the Standard PEI-Student Contract.
Note 5: The Standard PEI-Student Contract must be signed by the student prior to making course fees payments to DIMENSIONS.
Note 6: The course fees shown above are effective 5th September 2014 and valid till 31st March 2015. DIMENSIONS reserves the right to make amendment to the course fees without prior notice as and when it deem necessary.

Duration

The course duration is 14 months Institutional Training and 6 months Industrial Attachment (Total 20 months)

Maximum allowed period for a student to complete the course is 28 months, excluding the period of industry attachment.

Entry Requirements

Age: At least 17 years old.

Academic Level: GCE N-Level or GCE O-Level or GCE A-Level or its equivalent.

English Proficiency: At least IELTS 5.5 or CAE Level 4 or pass the English Proficiency Test at equivalent level conducted by DIMENSIONS.

Class Periods

Monday to Friday:
9.30am-12.30am and/or 1.45pm-4.45pm

3 contact hours per session, 5 sessions per week
(Total: 15 contact hourss per week)

Examination Period

1-2 assignments and projects for each module at end of semester

*Students(both International and local) must achieve an attendance rate of 80% and above in order to qualify for examinations

Assessment Methods

100% assignments/projects for 16 modules.

Assessment Grading Criteria

Distinction (D): A “Distinction” is achieved by meeting “Pass” and “Merit” requirement and fulfilling all distinction characteristics as defined in the grade descriptor.

Merit (M): A “Merit” grade is achieved by meeting “Pass” requirement and fulfilling all merit grade characteristics as defined in the Grade Descriptor.

Pass (P): A “Pass” grade is achieved by meeting all outcomes & associated criteria as defined in the assessment criteria.

Refer (R): A “Refer” grade is given when a student failed to meet the requirements of a “Pass”;

Teachers Qualifications

  • All teachers are registered with the Council for Private Education (CPE). All teachers have the required qualifications with 5 years of experience or higher level of qualifications. Please refer to faculty member lists in the website for the detailed qualifications of teachers.
  • Average teacher-student ratio is 1:35
    Note: The number of students in the classroom is subjected to the maximum allowable seating capacity.

Note 1: This course will be conducted at the premises of DIMENSIONS International College.
Note 2: International Student must achieve at least 90% attendance rate (ICA Requirement).
Note 3: International Student must not be absent for more than 7 consecutive days without valid reason (ICA Requirement).
Note 4: Students who do not require ICA’s student’s pass must achieve at least 80% attendance rate.Our College only accept medical certificates as proof for absenteeism. Any other documents should only be accepted on a case-by-case basis with full justification and be acceptable by ICA.
